PROCEDURE FOR ACQUIRING AN ARMS LICENCE

Whosoever wants to acquire an arms licence (and ammunition for the arm) has to apply in Form-3 to the District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioner of the Faridabad. The application is forwarded to the office of the Superintendent of Police, Faridabad, for police report. After the police report arrives at the District Magistrate’s office, then the District Magistrate issues the arms licence.

The following conditions apply to the issue of the licence:

  1. The applicant has to show proof of permanent residence in the district.
  2. Applicant shall not be granted license for more than three arms.
  3. The License is issued for three years and renewed thereafter on request of Licence Holder .
  4. The fees structure for arms licenses is as follows:

Ammunition : The District Magistrate allows only 25 bullets/rounds per firearm.

Purchase period : Once new licence is issued a purchase period for purchasing the firearm is specified – if one cannot purchase it within this period then one has to apply for extension of purchase period. If it is not extended in time the licence stands cancelled vide Rule 52(2).

Renewal of licence: An arms licence has to be renewed every three years. The renewal can be done within a month of expiry of the period specified in the licence. The following documents are required at time of renewal:

  1. An affidavit
  2. Original Arms License
  3. Fees challan

The fees for renewal is:

  • Even in the case of renewal of arms licence a report is sought from the office of the Superintendent of Police Faridabad. The renewal is generally for three years.
  • Under the Arms Rules if the licence is not renewed in the stipulated renewal period then a specified fee is charged and the process for grant of new licence is initiated.
